My Editing Services
HOW I WORK WITH YOUR MANUSCRIPT
I love working with writers, and I take pride in being meticulous during every step of the editorial process. Together, we’ll work through the following stages to prepare your manuscript for publication.
MY PROCESS / COMPLETE EDIT
KICK-OFF INTERVIEW
Ideally, we’ll talk on the phone or Zoom to outline your goals for your book, define what you need from me, and walk through my feedback process.

MOVING FORWARD
(ONWARD AND UPWARD)
Assuming we are a good fit, I will dig into your manuscript. While I will certainly return your edited manuscript in a timely manner, I'll say from the start that I will take as much time as needed to get through every sentence of each paragraph of each chapter. I don't believe that process should be rushed, and I'd be doing you a disservice if I did. My turnaround time will be a few weeks, depending on the length of the manuscript and the cleanliness of the prose. During that time, you are welcome to contact me with any questions or concerns that arise.
COMPLETED EDIT
I will return your manuscript with the following:
COMPLETED EDIT
I will return your manuscript with the following:
• An extensive "macro" critique addressing the narrative and any larger structural concerns.
• A "micro" critique addressing any issues that frequently come up in the line-by-line prose that might clutter your delivery.
• The line-edited manuscript (I typically use Microsoft Word, put I have pivoted to other platforms in the past as needed).
SECOND PASS
Occasionally, writers will request that I go back through their manuscript after they have implemented the recommended editorial changes. I will apply the same thoroughness as the first edit, and the same extensive critique. Rates and turnaround time are typically less than half of the first edit, thanks to the cleanliness of the edited manuscript.

ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES
EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT
I’ll read your manuscript and provide general feedback on your narrative, flow, voice and market viability without focusing on line edits. Turnaround time is much quicker for this macro approach.
COPY EDITING
Copy editing occurs organically (and frequently) during my editing process. If you would prefer a pass where copy editing is the sole focus, ignoring larger content and structural concerns, I am happy to provide it. Turnaround time is generally quicker for this focused approach, depending on the cleanliness of the prose.
BOOK DOCTORING
In some cases, manuscripts require more of my attention than an extensive edit. Book doctoring is an in-depth process that involves moving sections and reorganizing content. In essence, the writer is empowering me to make the editorial changes I would recommend. I’ll do extensive research to match your voice, making my additions and changes unnoticeable. By the end of this process, the book will still be your own – you’ll have input on every change I make – but your manuscript will be clean, reorganized, and ready for publication. I'll also add that this approach will be implemented only at the writer's discretion, and I would never change a word in a standard edit without the writer's consent.
GHOST WRITING
Occasionally, my clients need help filling in the gaps in their work. In these cases, I can step in as a ghost writer to help get their book to market in a timely manner. Ghost writing is different from book doctoring, in that I will be generating content, rather than changing existing content. Again, this service will be implemented only at the writer's request.

All of my work is tailored to your individual needs to best serve you and your manuscript. My rates are negotiable, and – depending on the job – we’ll define a flat fee or an hourly rate you are comfortable with.
